Trustpilot Appoints Marcus Roy as New Finance Chief
Trustpilot named Marcus Roy as its new finance chief to succeed Hanno Damm. The firm is currently facing regulatory fines and allegations from a short seller.
The online review platform Trustpilot Group plc has appointed Marcus Roy, currently the finance chief at The Economist Group, as its new Chief Financial Officer. Roy is scheduled to join the board of the United Kingdom-based company on September 14, succeeding Hanno Damm, who is stepping down after more than a decade with the firm. During his tenure at The Economist Group, which began in 2021, Roy led the financial strategy through its transition to a digital-first, subscription-led model. His career also includes serving as the group financial controller at Associated British Foods plc and spending 14 years in senior finance roles at Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Carphone.

This leadership change arrives as Trustpilot navigates significant regulatory and market scrutiny. On Monday, the competition authority in Italy fined the company 4 million euros ($4.64 million) for inadequate review checks and misleading consumer practices. Trustpilot has expressed its intent to appeal the findings.
Trustpilot said it strongly disagrees with the findings and shall appeal.
Additionally, the company is addressing allegations from short-seller Grizzly Research, which accused the platform in December of creating fake profiles to post negative reviews as a means of pressuring businesses into purchasing subscriptions. Trustpilot has denied all allegations of misconduct related to these claims.
