SEBI reviews bond disclosure and plans tokenized market
SEBI is reviewing bond disclosure norms to align them with equity standards. It also plans to pilot tokenized corporate bonds within the next nine months.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is reviewing a proposal to align listed debt disclosure requirements with equity standards to streamline market operations. Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey announced the review during an event in India on Tuesday afternoon. The move aims to deepen a corporate bond market that remains underdeveloped compared to the nation's equity sector.
### Modernizing the Bond Ecosystem The regulator is preparing a pilot program for the tokenization of corporate bonds with rollout expected in six to nine months. This initiative involves converting debt securities into digital tokens on a shared ledger. Pandey said the use of digital ledger technology will enable near-instant settlements for market participants.
