The EU says Google must share search data with rivals and AI bots to comply with digital rules. A final decision on the measures is expected this July.

The European Commission has issued preliminary findings to Google regarding proposed measures to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act. The proposed framework would require the company to grant third-party search engines access to its search data, including information processed by artificial intelligence chatbots with search functionalities.

The announcement, released on Thursday, establishes a deadline of May 1 for stakeholders to submit their perspectives on the proposed measures. A final decision by the commission is expected in July. This move follows formal charges brought against Google in March 2025 for breaching the Digital Markets Act.

Although Google has offered its own proposals to address regulatory concerns and satisfy competitors, rival firms have consistently argued that these measures are insufficient. The commission's preliminary findings represent a continued effort to enforce fair competition within the search engine market.
