Euro zone business lending growth slows to 2.8 percent
Bank lending to euro zone businesses slowed to its lowest rate since mid-2025 last month. Household credit remained steady at three percent according to ECB data.
Lending to businesses across the euro zone slowed in January, while household credit remained resilient, according to data released by the European Central Bank on Thursday. The growth rate for loans to companies decelerated to 2.8% last month, marking its slowest pace since June 2025, down from 3.0% in December. Meanwhile, lending to households showed more stability, maintaining a growth rate of 3.0% in January, which was unchanged from the previous month. These figures indicate a cooling in corporate borrowing appetite even as consumer credit demand remains steady across the region.
