El Al will buy up to 12 Boeing 787s for 1.5 billion dollars. The airline aims to modernize its fleet and expand capacity on routes to North America and Asia.
EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES has announced a significant expansion of its long-haul fleet, reaching an agreement with BOEING CO/THE to purchase up to 12 additional 787 Dreamliner aircraft in a deal valued at approximately $1.5 billion. The move comes as the flag carrier of Israel seeks to capitalize on its strengthened market position following recent regional conflicts involving Gaza and Iran.
Under the terms of the amended agreement, the airline is exercising options for six 787-9 Dreamliners and converting existing options for four aircraft into the larger, more efficient 787-10 model. These new wide-body jets are scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2032. Additionally, the carrier has secured options for six more 787s to be delivered between 2033 and 2035, which will be utilized on high-demand routes to North America and Asia.
