China Southern Returns to Profit for First Time Since 2019

China Southern Airlines Company Limited reported a net profit of 857 million yuan ($124.01 million) for 2025, marking its first profitable year since 2019. The carrier, based in China, successfully returned to the black following five years of consecutive losses by implementing tighter cost controls and operational improvements. The full-year result was within the company’s earlier guidance of 800 million to 1 billion yuan and represents a significant recovery from the 1.7 billion yuan net loss seen in 2024.

According to reports from Hong Kong and Beijing, the airline was the only one among the nation’s three largest state-owned carriers to achieve a net profit for the 2025 period. While the industry has seen a rebound, the airline noted that the external environment remains demanding.
