Zealand Pharma Shares Fall on Obesity Drug Trial Data
Shares of Zealand Pharma fell sharply after clinical data revealed that 25 percent of patients discontinued treatment with the obesity drug survodutide due to side effects. While the trial showed positive results for liver fat reduction, the high dropout rate raised concerns about the drug's tolerability compared to rival treatments.
ZEALAND PHARMA A/S shares fell as much as 25% on Monday morning after clinical data for its injectable obesity drug survodutide showed high patient dropout rates. This 25% discontinuation rate at the highest dose significantly exceeds the 7% and 6% dropout rates reported for rival treatments Wegovy and Zepbound. The data heightens competition in a projected $100 billion obesity market where safety and tolerability are now as critical as weight loss.
