US agency issues guidance on Medicaid work requirements
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced new rules requiring 80 hours of monthly work for eligibility starting January 2027. States will receive 200 million dollars in grants to implement the program which aims to move able-bodied enrollees to employer-sponsored health plans.
The United States Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued interim guidance on Monday afternoon requiring Medicaid enrollees to work 80 hours monthly. The rule, announced last year as part of President Donald Trump's tax cut and spending bill, mandates eligibility verification at least every six months, though states can choose to conduct checks more frequently. The policy aims to move participants toward employer-sponsored plans and preserve resources for vulnerable populations.
