Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Kills 20 Civilians
A Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia killed twenty people including three children just a day after the United States lifted sanctions on Russian diesel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sharply criticized the sanctions relief while heavy bombardment continued across multiple cities.
Twenty people died and 18 others were wounded on Saturday morning when Russia struck Ukraine's southern city of Zaporizhzhia with five glide bombs. The bombardment followed a U.S. decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel. The policy shift threatens to replenish Moscow's war chest just as global energy markets face renewed volatility.
President Donald Trump's administration eased the restrictions to tame fuel prices driven higher by the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Kyiv had urged the United States to intensify economic pressure to force peace talks in the four-and-a-half-year war.
