Italian industrial output fell unexpectedly by 1.3 percent in August following a modest rise in July. The weaker than expected reading clouds the economic outlook.

Italy's industrial output fell 1.3% in August from the previous month, missing forecasts and clouding the euro zone's third-largest economy. The decline follows a 0.6% rise in July, according to data from national statistics bureau ISTAT released on Friday morning. Economists had projected a flat month-on-month reading for August.
