BP JV Starts Gas Production at Angola Quiluma Field
Azule Energy started gas production at Angola's Quiluma field today. The project aims for 150 million cubic feet daily, rising to 330 million by year-end.
BP p.l.c. has announced that its joint venture in Angola, Azule Energy, has commenced gas production at the Quiluma field. This development is a component of the New Gas Consortium (NGC), representing the first project in the nation dedicated to non-associated gas. Azule Energy operates the consortium alongside partners including TotalEnergies SE, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, and Sonangol.
The launch of production at Quiluma is a significant milestone for the energy sector in the region. It signals a strategic shift toward the development of non-associated gas—natural gas extracted from wells without substantial crude oil—and the optimization of liquefied natural gas (LNG) resources. This move is expected to strengthen the country's position within the international gas market.

Initial output from the Quiluma field is projected to reach 150 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) per day. Production levels are anticipated to increase steadily, reaching a target of 330 mmscf per day by the conclusion of 2026. This project aligns with the broader strategic objectives of the British energy major, which aims to execute 10 major global project start-ups by the end of 2027.
