Canada recorded a trade surplus of 5.35 billion Canadian dollars in September driven by strong gold and energy shipments to the United States. The figure exceeded analyst expectations despite broader export declines from new tariffs.

Canada posted a trade surplus of C$5.35 billion ($3.83 billion) in September, reaching its highest level since May 2022. The result topped the C$4.10 billion surplus forecasted by economists polled by Reuters. Elevated shipments of crude and precious metals to the United States drove the expansion despite ongoing tariff pressures.
