Indermit Gill will retire as chief economist of the World Bank at the end of August. The departure concludes a career at the institution that began in 1993 and included leadership of global debt transparency initiatives. His exit coincides with a leadership transition at the IMF, creating a vacuum in global economic policy during a period of rising Middle East tensions.
