Westpac first quarter profit climbs six percent on loan and deposit growth

Australia's third-largest lender reported a six percent rise in quarterly profit to A$1.9 billion. The result was driven by growth in deposits and loans.

Westpac Banking Corp announced today that its underlying net profit for the first quarter rose 6% from the average of the previous two quarters. The bank, which is the third-largest lender in Australia AUAU by market capitalisation, reported an unaudited net profit of A$1.9 billion for the three months ended December 31.
