Western Gas Exporters Gain as Qatar Supply Flows Dry Up
Western gas stocks rose as Middle East supply disruptions drove up global prices. Venture Global and Cheniere Energy gained as Qatar exports faced long-term cuts.
Shares in Western natural gas suppliers and traders have emerged as significant beneficiaries of the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Investors are increasingly betting that companies with supply routes bypassing the Middle East will secure a windfall as energy prices remain elevated. This shift comes as the rally in natural gas has significantly outpaced gains in the oil markets, reflecting tighter underlying supply dynamics.
While Brent Crude Oil has risen by more than 40% since the beginning of the hostilities, the European gas benchmark nearly doubled at its peak, reaching approximately 68 euros per megawatt hour. This price surge has revived concerns regarding energy security, particularly as Europe approaches its seasonal gas-storage refill period.
