Viatris Forecasts Lower 2026 Profit Due to India Plant Fire
Viatris expects 2026 profit to miss estimates after a fire at its India plant. The firm will also cut its global workforce by 10 percent to reduce costs.
Viatris Inc. has issued a financial outlook for 2026 that trails analyst expectations, primarily due to significant manufacturing disruptions at its facilities in India. The drugmaker reported that a fire at its Nashik plant earlier this month necessitated a temporary closure of the site, which is responsible for producing various tablets and capsules. While the company anticipates resuming operations in April, the incident has been factored into a lowered profit forecast for the coming year.
The operational setback in Nashik compounds existing challenges for the company's supply chain. In December 2024, the United States Food and Drug Administration restricted imports from another of the firm's Indian facilities following violations of federal manufacturing requirements. These regulatory and physical disruptions have placed a strain on the company's regional production capabilities, which include four major manufacturing sites.
