US senators seek probe into Nvidia CEO remarks on China
US senators asked the Commerce Department to probe if Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang misled officials about chip smuggling. The move follows recent federal charges.
Two senators in the United States have formally requested an investigation into whether statements made by the leadership of NVIDIA Corporation potentially misled federal officials regarding the diversion of artificial intelligence technology to China. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jim Banks directed their inquiry to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, questioning the accuracy of public assurances regarding the security of advanced chip exports.
This legislative push follows recent charges by the Justice Department against three individuals associated with Super Micro Computer, Inc. for allegedly smuggling billions of dollars in AI servers into restricted territories. One of the individuals charged, a co-founder of the company, was recently photographed alongside Nvidia's CEO at a high-profile industry event.
