US Seeks $15.3 Million Linked to Iranian Oil Network
The U.S. filed complaints for $15.3 million linked to an Iranian oil network. The funds were allegedly used by the son of a former official killed last week.
The United States has initiated legal proceedings to seize more than $15.3 million in funds allegedly tied to an illicit oil distribution network operated on behalf of Iran. The Justice Department filed two civil forfeiture complaints on Friday, alleging that the assets were used by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani to manage various companies involved in the prohibited sale and shipment of petroleum products.
According to federal authorities, the network facilitated the distribution of commodities, including Brent Crude Oil, in violation of existing sanctions. Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani is identified as the son of Ali Shamkhani, a prominent figure who served as a senior adviser to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This legal move comes in the wake of significant geopolitical shifts, as both Ali Shamkhani and Ali Khamenei were reportedly killed during military strikes carried out by U.S. and Israel forces last week.
