US plans to accelerate troop withdrawal from Europe
The United States is reportedly planning to speed up the withdrawal of military personnel from Europe and will present proposals to NATO allies next month. This follows a previous announcement to pull 5,000 troops from Germany amid ongoing diplomatic tensions.
The United States will accelerate the withdrawal of troops from Germany and present new proposals to NATO allies next month. Washington previously planned to remove 5,000 of the 35,000 active-duty personnel currently stationed in Germany. The move is widely seen as a consequence of a rift over the Iran war between President Donald Trump and European powers.
### Faster Exit from European Bases The Pentagon is speeding up its exit strategy from European bases, according to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. While the original May plan projected a six-to-twelve-month window for the 5,000-troop reduction, the new timeline remains unspecified. An unidentified Pentagon source said the updated proposals will be shared with allies during the upcoming NATO Force Sourcing Conference.
