United States House lawmakers proposed a $130 annual fee for electric vehicles and $35 for plug-in hybrids to fund road repairs. The bipartisan legislation aims to replace lost fuel tax revenue within a $580 billion five-year highway reauthorization package. Most federal road repair revenue currently comes from diesel and gasoline taxes, which EV owners do not pay.
