US Energy Department Backs Major Carbon Capture Projects
The Energy Department will maintain funding for major direct air capture hubs in Texas and Louisiana. Officials confirmed the projects remain viable after a review.
The United States Department of Energy has confirmed it will retain funding for major carbon direct air capture initiatives, reversing a previous proposal to cancel billions of dollars in clean energy grants. The decision ensures that nearly 2,000 projects, including those focused on hydrogen and auto manufacturing, will continue to receive federal support.
Among the primary beneficiaries are two massive direct air capture (DAC) hubs: Project Cypress in Louisiana and the South Texas DAC Hub. The Texas project involves OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM CORP, which is working to scale up technology designed to remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. These hubs were originally awarded substantial funding under the previous administration, but were subjected to an individualized review last October.
