Consumer sentiment in the United States showed unexpected resilience in March, even as households braced for a period of heightened inflation driven by rising energy costs and trade pressures. The Conference Board reported on Tuesday that its consumer confidence index edged up to 91.8 this month, surpassing the 88.0 reading anticipated by economists polled by Reuters. This follows a slight downward revision for February, which was adjusted to 91.0 from the previously reported 91.2.
