US Ambassador Reports Headwinds in Canada Trade Talks
US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra says trade talks with Canada lack progress since October. He urged Canada to justify lower tariffs before the July USMCA review.
The United States is encountering significant challenges in its trade discussions with Canada[country:\{ value:\"CA\" \}], according to U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra. While Washington intends to renew the trilateral trade agreement that includes Mexico, the lack of substantive discussions since October has created a sense of uncertainty ahead of a mandatory review scheduled for July 1.
Speaking at the Canadian Crops Convention in Toronto, Hoekstra noted that while the existing trade pact has functioned well, progress has stalled. He indicated that there have been no substantive talks with Canadian officials since the autumn, despite a recent meeting between the Canadian trade minister and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
