The government of the United Kingdom
GB has launched a formal consultation to refine its national competition regime. This initiative proposes to make anti-trust processes faster and more predictable while ensuring that the independence of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) from government ministers is preserved. The consultation aims to create a more proportionate framework, as the current regime in the United Kingdom is often described as one of the world's toughest regulatory frameworks.
As part of this modernization effort, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will review its historical interventions. The regulator has already identified 33 market remedies that may no longer be necessary, representing approximately 60 percent of all remedies currently in place. The government stated that these proposals are designed to simplify the decision-making process for anti-trust probes and streamline the review of market remedies.
