Ukraine Boosts Diesel Imports to Secure April Supply

Ukraine increased diesel imports to 21,400 tons daily to avoid an April shortage. Officials say 70% of next month's required supply is already secured.

Ukraine has significantly increased its diesel fuel imports, effectively mitigating the risk of a potential shortage in the coming month. Following a series of missile strikes by Russia that decimated the domestic refining infrastructure, Ukraine has become almost entirely dependent on fuel supplies imported from western, central, and southern Europe.

According to a report from the Kyiv-based fuel consultancy Enkorr, average daily diesel deliveries reached 21,400 metric tons between March 23 and March 26. This represents a notable increase from the 19,400 tons recorded during the same period the previous week. If this import momentum continues, total volumes for March are projected to reach 565,000 tons, surpassing initial estimates of 522,000 tons and marking a 9% increase over the previous year.

Industry analysts and traders indicate that there is no immediate threat of a fuel deficit. In its assessment of the current market conditions, Enkorr noted the following:

There is no clear risk of a shortage.

The Ukrainian energy ministry recently stated that the diesel market was fully supplied for the current month and that approximately 70% of the required volume for April has already been secured. While supply levels remain stable, the market has faced pricing pressures. Enkorr highlighted that traders have observed wholesale diesel prices rising by nearly 50% in less than a month, a trend largely attributed to geopolitical instability and conflict in the Middle East.
