Amazon.com, Inc. has lost its latest legal bid to block two mass lawsuits in the United Kingdom that could result in total damages of up to 4 billion pounds ($5.41 billion). The Court of Appeal on Thursday denied the company permission to challenge a previous decision that allowed the cases to proceed, clearing the way for a major legal battle over allegations that the e-commerce giant abused its dominant market position.

The litigation consists of two separate mass actions representing both third-party retailers and millions of consumers. The first case, valued at up to 2.7 billion pounds, was brought by Andreas Stephan, a competition law academic, on behalf of more than 200,000 sellers. His legal team alleges that the company manipulates its "Buy Box" feature to its own advantage, specifically favoring products that utilize its internal logistics and delivery networks.
