U.S. Dollar gains as Trump signals prolonged Iran conflict
The U.S. dollar rose on Thursday after President Trump's speech on Iran undermined hopes for a swift end to the conflict. Markets turned to safe-haven assets.
The United States dollar rallied significantly on Thursday, breaking a two-session losing streak as investors sought safe-haven assets following comments from the White House regarding the Middle East. President Donald Trump’s latest address dampened market expectations for a quick resolution to the ongoing conflict with Iran, prompting a shift back toward defensive positioning.
During his televised speech, the President suggested more aggressive military actions could occur within the next few weeks, providing no clear timeline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. In response, military officials from the Islamic Republic warned of destructive retaliatory measures against both American interests and Israel.
