TSX marks strongest weekly gain since November as oil jumps

The TSX rose 3.6 percent this week as oil prices reached 111.54 dollars. Energy shares led the gains while Canada reported a wider trade deficit for February.

The main stock index in Canada recorded its most significant weekly advance since November, bolstered by a surge in energy prices as geopolitical tensions weighed on global markets. On Thursday, the S&P/TSX Composite Index climbed 150.27 points, or 0.5%, to close at 33,108.22, marking its highest finish since mid-March. Over the course of the holiday-shortened trading week, the index rose 3.6% ahead of the Good Friday market closure.
