TSX Composite Index Opens 1% Higher on Commodity Gains
Canada's main stock index rose 1% to 32,285.14 on Monday morning. Mining and energy gains offset investor concerns regarding the widening Middle East conflict.
Canada's resource-heavy main stock index opened higher on Monday, as gains in the mining and energy sectors provided a significant boost to the market. The S&P/TSX Composite Index climbed 1% to reach 32,285.14 by 09:31 a.m. ET, reflecting a resilient performance despite growing geopolitical tensions. The positive momentum was largely attributed to firmer commodity prices, which bolstered the valuation of major resource companies. These gains effectively offset broader market concerns stemming from the widening conflict in the Middle East. Investors focused on the strength of the energy and materials sectors as global supply worries supported price levels for oil and minerals.
