Trump considers measures to lower oil costs amid Iran war
Trump is reviewing reserve releases and export limits to lower oil prices following Iran strikes. The plan aims to ease costs ahead of the midterm elections.
President Donald Trump is expected to review a series of strategic options as early as Monday to address the sharp rise in energy prices. The cost of Brent Crude Oil recently surged past $100 per barrel, a spike largely attributed to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. This volatility has prompted significant concern within the White House regarding the potential impact on consumers and the broader economy in the United States ahead of the November midterm elections.
Administration officials have been in discussions with the Group of Seven major economies to explore a coordinated release of crude oil from strategic reserves. Other measures under consideration include potential restrictions on U.S. energy exports, intervention in oil futures markets, and the suspension of federal taxes. Additionally, the administration is looking at waiving requirements under the Jones Act to allow more flexibility in transporting fuel between domestic ports.
