Trump and Bondi Sued Over TikTok Asset Sale Approval
The Public Integrity Project sued President Trump on Thursday over the TikTok asset sale. The suit claims the deal is illegal and seeks a full renegotiation.
President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi are facing a legal challenge over the United States government's approval of a deal involving the social media platform TikTok. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, contests the agreement by the platform's owner, ByteDance, which is headquartered in China, to create a majority American-owned joint venture. The legal action was brought by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two retail investors in competing social media firms. The plaintiffs allege that the administration's approval was illegal and failed to meet the requirements of a 2024 law.

According to the filing, the plaintiffs are seeking a renegotiation of the deal to ensure that administration allies are not in a position to censor political content on the platform. Despite the legal action, the lawsuit does not seek a ban on the application, which is currently used by 200 million people in the country. Instead, the focus remains on the terms of the asset sale and the potential for political influence over content.
