US Treasury Secretary Criticizes China Oil Hoarding
Scott Bessent called China an unreliable partner for hoarding oil during the Middle East war. He noted that communication is key for Trump's upcoming visit.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of the United States stated on Tuesday that China has acted as an unreliable global partner during the conflict in the Middle East. Bessent accused the nation of hoarding supplies of Brent Crude Oil and limiting the export of specific goods, comparing the behavior to the stockpiling of medical supplies observed during the global pandemic. Speaking with reporters, the Treasury Secretary confirmed he has addressed these concerns directly with Chinese officials.
While Bessent did not explicitly state whether the current dispute would impact the scheduled visit of President Donald Trump to Beijing at the end of the month, he noted that Trump and President Xi Jinping maintain a productive working relationship. The focus of the upcoming diplomatic mission is expected to be the preservation of bilateral stability.
