The move follows a May 27 regulatory tightening where Beijing labeled such cross-border brokerage accounts illegal. Investors have a two-year grace period as online brokerages wind down these mainland activities.
### Beijing Tightens Grip on Offshore Trading The Singapore-headquartered firm issued the notice to clients on Tuesday midday. Under the new rules, investors can still buy or sell securities from existing accounts when they travel offshore. This restriction follows mandates from the Chinese regulator regarding the legality of these accounts.
