The industrial manufacturer thyssenkrupp AG has confirmed it will extend production cuts at its facility in Isbergues, located in northern France, due to what it describes as a ruinous flood of imports into Europe. The company announced that production at the site will be completely suspended from June until September, a move that endangers approximately 1,200 jobs across both the French plant and related operations in Germany.

The Isbergues site has been functioning at only half capacity since January, primarily producing grain-oriented electrical steel. This specialized material is a critical component for power grid infrastructure, but the European market for it is currently facing extreme pressure. Thyssenkrupp noted that these imports are not currently addressed by European Union strategies to halve tariff-free steel quotas or impose duties on excess shipments. Consequently, the company is in active discussions with the European Commission, seeking the urgent implementation of safeguards to protect its employees.
