Thailand Requests More LNG from Malaysia Amid Disruptions
Thailand is seeking additional LNG from Malaysia to replace Middle East supplies. Officials aim to diversify up to ten percent of imports during the conflict.
Thailand is actively seeking to increase its imports of Natural Gas from neighboring Malaysia following supply disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Energy officials indicated on Wednesday that the shift is part of a broader strategy to diversify the nation's energy sources and mitigate risks associated with regional instability.
Watcharin Boonyarit, the deputy director general of the Energy Policy and Planning Office at the Thai Energy Ministry, noted that the country needs to pivot approximately 5% to 10% of its liquefied natural gas supply away from the Middle East. Speaking at the Offshore Technology Conference in Kuala Lumpur, he explained that the current arrival rate of two to three vessels per month from the region would need to be replaced if the crisis persists.
