Tesla Ends Graphite Supply Dispute with Syrah Resources
Tesla has withdrawn its intent to terminate a graphite supply agreement with Australia's Syrah Resources after months of negotiations. The electric vehicle maker now accepts that the Vidalia plant in Louisiana is producing conforming anode material samples for its batteries.
TESLA INC withdrew a termination notice against Australia miner Syrah Resources on Monday. The decision secures a critical graphite supply deal covering 8,000 metric tons of graphite anode materials for battery production. Months of negotiations and four deadline extensions preceded the resolution.
The United States has prioritized securing domestic electric vehicle component sourcing to reduce reliance on China, which dominates global graphite processing. Syrah's Vidalia plant in Louisiana is the only vertically integrated, large-scale producer of anode materials outside China. This resolution stabilizes a key non-Chinese supply chain link.
