Tata Steel Misses Q4 Profit View on Rising Input Costs
Tata Steel posted a 29.26 billion rupee profit, missing views on higher costs. Revenue rose 12.5% as domestic demand and steel production recovered.
TATA STEEL LTD reported a quarterly profit of 29.26 billion rupees ($304.9 million), missing analyst estimates despite doubling its bottom line from the previous year. The result fell short of the 30.8 billion rupee average estimate compiled by LSEG as rising input costs offset production gains. Higher raw material expenses and restructuring charges in the Netherlands now pressure margins for the second-largest steelmaker in India.
### Input Costs and European Restructuring Rising coking coal prices drove a 16.7% increase in material costs during the quarter ended March 31. This surge followed gas shortages linked to the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, which forced higher global coal consumption. Total expenses for Tata Steel climbed 8% to 585.02 billion rupees.
