Target recalls baby wipes over infection risk
Target is voluntarily recalling several varieties of Up and Up branded baby wipes after FDA testing identified traces of bacteria that could cause life-threatening infections. Customers are advised to stop using the fragrance-free and cucumber-scented products and return them for a full refund.
TARGET CORP is voluntarily recalling select Up & Up branded baby wipes across the United States following reports of potential bacterial contamination. The action follows FDA testing that identified bacteria in fragrance-free and cucumber-scented varieties sold nationwide and online. Target and Turkish manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri received customer complaints of skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections.
### Bacterial Risk Triggers National Recall The recall affects Up & Up Fragrance-Free and Fresh Cucumber Scented wipes manufactured by Sapro Temizlik Urunleri in Turkey. A June 5 notice from the FDA confirmed that testing found traces of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioi. These bacteria can cause life-threatening infections, including sepsis and pneumonia, particularly in infants and immunocompromised individuals.
