The rand strengthened as markets assessed monthly domestic data for clues to the health of Africa's most industrialised economy. South Africa recorded a 31.87B rand trade surplus in March, according to National Treasury data. This surplus arrived alongside a budget deficit of 45.61B rand for the month. Statistics South Africa reported that producer inflation reached 2.3% year-on-year in March.
