SA Tax Collection Rises 8.4 Percent to 2.01 Trillion Rand
South Africa collected 2.01 trillion rand in tax last year, beating forecasts by 24.7 billion. The 8.4 percent rise was driven by mining and better compliance.
South Africa has reported a net tax collection of 2.01 trillion rand ($119.73 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, marking an 8.4% increase from the previous year. According to preliminary data from the South African Revenue Service (SARS), this total exceeded the 2025 budget forecast by 24.7 billion rand. The performance of the USD/ZAR exchange rate remains a significant factor in the country's fiscal reporting.
The agency attributed the rise to improved compliance, administrative efficiency, and the contribution of the mining sector. These results were achieved despite domestic economic challenges and global supply-chain disruptions. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter provided further detail on the revenue drivers during a press conference.
