Under the new arrangement, these companies will pay 62 South African cents per kilowatt hour. This represents a substantial decrease from the interim tariff of 87.74 cents per kilowatt hour that was initially approved by the national energy regulator in January. The decision comes as the ferrochrome industry faces severe financial pressure due to fluctuating global demand and high operational costs. By lowering the energy burden, authorities hope to stabilize the operations of these key industrial players and maintain the country's position in the global ferrochrome market.
