Singapore's economy delivered a surprising outperformance in 2025, achieving a 4.8% annual growth rate, the strongest since 2021. This figure significantly exceeded the government's November forecast of 4.0% and prior guidance of 1.5% to 2.5%, reflecting the resilience of the city-state's export-driven economy amid global trade uncertainties. The robust growth was largely driven by the manufacturing sector, particularly in the biomedical and electronics clusters, buoyed by sustained global demand for AI-related semiconductors, servers, and server-related products.
The Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry released preliminary GDP data on Friday, highlighting a 5.7% year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 and a 1.9% expansion from the previous quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis. This exceptional performance was supported by the timing of U.S. tariffs, which were imposed later and at lower levels than initially anticipated, according to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong lawrence wong.
