SEBI proposes easing rules for infrastructure trusts to boost capital flows

India's markets regulator proposed easing rules for infrastructure trusts on Thursday. These changes allow longer project holdings and more flexible borrowing.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India ININ (SEBI) has proposed a series of rule changes for Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) aimed at boosting capital flows into these investment vehicles. The measures are intended to remove existing regulatory constraints that currently limit the ability of trusts to hold assets, access diversified liquid investments, and attract strategic investors. By addressing these structural barriers, the regulator seeks to alter funding conditions for both Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).
