Scaleway Opens Milan Cloud Region to Challenge US Rivals
Scaleway opened a Milan cloud region and plans to expand into Sweden and Germany. The Iliad subsidiary aims to rival US giants with local digital services.
Scaleway, the cloud service provider owned by the French telecommunications group Iliad, has announced the opening of a new cloud region in Milan, Italy. This move marks a significant step in the company's broader strategy to expand its European footprint and offer a homegrown alternative to the technology giants based in the United States.
The European cloud market is currently dominated by a trio of major providers. Amazon.com, Inc., Microsoft Corporation, and Alphabet Inc. collectively control approximately 70% of the sector within the European Union. This concentration of market power has led to increasing calls for greater digital sovereignty and a reduced reliance on foreign infrastructure.
