Russia Offers Sanctioned LNG to Asia at 40 Percent Discount
Russia is offering sanctioned liquefied natural gas to South Asian nations at a 40 percent discount. Intermediaries in China and Russia manage the shipments.
Russia is reportedly seeking to attract buyers from South Asian nations by offering liquefied Natural Gas at significant price reductions. This move comes as Moscow attempts to navigate a complex landscape of international trade restrictions and maintain its energy export revenues.
According to a report from Bloomberg News, shipments from facilities sanctioned by the United States were offered last week at discounts reaching 40% compared to prevailing spot market prices. The report, which cited individuals familiar with the matter, indicated that these transactions are being facilitated through little-known intermediary firms located in China and Russia.

The strategy appears to leverage the ongoing global energy supply crunch to entice nations in need of affordable fuel. By utilizing intermediaries, the process aims to mitigate the logistical and financial hurdles posed by sanctions. This approach underscores the shifting dynamics of the global energy trade as major producers seek new outlets for their resources amidst geopolitical tensions.
