Rosneft CEO Claims US Firms Benefit From Hormuz Closure
Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin told the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that U.S. energy companies are the primary beneficiaries of the Strait of Hormuz blockade. He warned that continued tensions in the vital shipping lane could undermine long-term global oil demand and accelerate interest in alternative energy sources.
Rosneft Chief Executive Igor Sechin said the United States is the primary beneficiary of the ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade. The closure of the vital artery has disrupted 20% of global crude supplies following military escalations between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. The disruption threatens to erode long-term oil demand as high prices and supply risks accelerate the global shift toward alternative energy sources.
### Reshaping Global Energy Markets Sechin told the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Saturday that the blockade is a deliberate attempt to reshape global energy regulations. He argued that American firms have gained non-competitive advantages, allowing them to secure high-cost supplies while global competitors face logistical paralysis. Though the measures targeted Iran, Sechin noted the strategy has backfired by destabilizing the global economy.
