Middle East Conflict Drives Global Diesel Price Increase
Rising diesel prices threaten global growth as Middle East conflict disrupts supply routes. Analysts warn higher fuel costs may trigger new inflation risks.
Global economic activity is facing a significant threat as surging diesel prices respond to escalating conflict in the Middle East. The industrial fuel, which is essential for global trade, is seeing supply pressures compounded by geopolitical instability and existing refinery disruptions. Supply chains were already under strain due to attacks by Ukraine on refineries in Russia and the subsequent impact of Western sanctions on exports from Moscow.
The situation has intensified with the conflict involving Israel and the United States against Iran. This tension centers on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage through which approximately 10% to 20% of global seaborne diesel supplies flow.
