The Philippines has authorized the temporary and limited use of Euro-II compliant petroleum products, a cheaper but more pollutant fuel type, to maintain domestic energy security amid the escalating Middle East crisis. The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that the measure applies specifically to vehicles from model year 2015 and earlier, traditional jeepneys, power plants, generators, and the marine and shipping sectors.
The measure is intended to help maintain a continuous, adequate and accessible fuel supply, while allowing limited flexibility for sectors that may be affected.
