Shares of the Tokyo-based payments giant PayPay were indicated to open significantly higher during their Nasdaq debut on Thursday. The stock was positioned to start trading at $22, representing a 37.5% jump from the initial offer price of $16. This surge suggests a potential valuation of approximately $14.71 billion for the company, which is backed by SoftBank Group Corp.. The offering involved the sale of roughly 55 million American Depositary Shares by the company and an investment fund controlled by SoftBank. Despite a marketed range of $17 to $20, the shares were priced at $16 to raise about $880 million. This conservative pricing strategy comes amid a volatile period for global markets, influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a cooling United States IPO market.

"With new listings being priced lower to offer after-market appeal, it increasingly looks we are in an IPO buyers market where companies aim for stable debuts and a positive launch story," said IPOX Research Associate Lukas Muehlbauer.
