Paychex, Inc. surpassed third-quarter earnings estimates on Wednesday, buoyed by sustained demand for its payroll and human resources solutions. Shares of the Rochester-based firm rose nearly 4% in early trading following the release of the financial results. Operating primarily within the United States, the company has seen a surge in demand as small- and medium-sized businesses navigate increasingly complex state-level compliance requirements. New mandates regarding paid leave, retirement funds, and wage reporting transparency have made internal payroll processing more risky for smaller firms, prompting them to outsource these functions to professional providers. Total revenue for the third quarter ended February 28 grew 20% to $1.81 billion, exceeding the $1.79 billion projected by analysts. Adjusted profit was reported at $1.71 per share, ahead of the $1.67 per share estimate. The company's largest segment, Management Solutions, recorded a 23% revenue increase. This growth was fueled by an expanding client roster and higher revenue per client, aided by the integration of Paycor, which was acquired for $4.1 billion last year to bolster automation and reduce compliance risks. Looking ahead, the company raised its annual outlook for interest earned on funds held for clients. This revenue stream, generated by investing client payroll and tax funds before disbursement, is now expected to reach between $200 million and $210 million, up from the previous forecast of $190 million to $200 million.
